Australian athlete Cathy Freeman won two World Championship gold medals in the 400 metres event and became the Olympic champion for the women's 400 metres at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics at which she lit the Olympic Flame (pictured).

American lawyer and Democratic politician Charles Warren is best known for political leadership in environmental matters, he also initiated and developed the first U.S. state-wide 9-1-1 emergency telephone service program in California with the Warren – 911 – Emergency Assistance Act becoming law in 1973.
