The 1954 classic novel Lord of the Flies (cover pictured) by Nobel Prize-winning English author William Golding features Ralph, Jack, Simon, Piggy, Roger, Sam and Eric and is about a group of British boys stuck on an uninhabited island who try to govern themselves with disastrous results.

Broadcast from 1974 to 1977, Porridge is a British situation comedy stars Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale as two inmates at the fictional HMP Slade in Cumberland with "Doing porridge" is British slang for serving a prison sentence and was followed by a 1978 sequel, Going Straight, which established that Fletcher would not be going back to prison again.
